The Göttingen Idea The Göttingen idea arose from a moment of crisis: With the start of the war in Ukraine, some people in Göttingen – especially many students – joined together to help. From initial aid shipments grew a movement that shows what is possible when people take responsibility and act together. Today we are channeling precisely this energy: People who want to do good find space with us to develop freely, implement their ideas, and provide concrete help. Our foundation is clear – all people are equal and deserve the same opportunities. Our club The association was founded in Göttingen at the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, driven by the desire to take concrete action rather than stand idly by. Since then, seven members have volunteered alongside their regular jobs to organize aid projects and support people in difficult circumstances – currently primarily in Ukraine and Kibera, Kenya. We are united by the conviction that everyone has the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. Even small contributions can make a difference when people work together and take responsibility for one another. It is important to us that aid reaches those in need directly. We deliberately operate simply, transparently, and without complex structures so that donations reach the people who urgently require them as fully as possible. Our motivation stems from a simple idea: helping others begins with people who are willing to stand up for them. From people for people. From people for people. Our commitment quickly garnered public attention: Several print media outlets reported on our operations and drew attention to our work. A particular milestone was our second aid convoy, in which we were able to deliver an entire truckload of medical supplies and several tons of disinfectant to war zones. This project was accompanied by a video project from the University of Göttingen and documented in a short film. In addition, our involvement was mentioned in an interview with the initiator Nils Landgren on NDR, which gave our work visibility beyond the region. It also supports the school in acquiring learning materials, school uniforms, and equipping the school administration, as well as maintaining the school building. The collaboration takes place directly with the school's principal, Priscillah Nyambura Macharia, who serves as the contact person for the project. A key figure in the creation of this project is jazz musician Nils Landgren, with whom it all began. His personal commitment and initiative led to contact with the school and the idea of providing ongoing support for the work of the Wings of Life School. Finance & Transparency Our association finances its work primarily through private donations. We consciously pursue the goal of implementing our projects independently and keeping bureaucratic and administrative costs to a minimum. This ensures that as much of the incoming donations as possible goes directly and entirely into our projects. Efficiency, independence, and responsible management of financial resources are our top priorities. Our working methods allow us to act flexibly and independently, and to provide rapid support where help is urgently needed. In this way, we make a direct contribution to the advancement and support of disadvantaged people.
